Which AI models does OnePlan use?

The models behind plan generation, video place extraction and receipt scanning — and what each one actually does.

One provider. Three workflows.Model selection varies by feature.

The short answer

OnePlan’s reviewed server configuration uses Google Gemini through Vertex AI. Different features ask the models to do different jobs. Creating a route is not the same task as reading a receipt or finding named places in a video.

Models by feature

FeatureReviewed configurationWhat the model produces
New plan generationgemini-3-pro-preview, then gemini-2.5-pro, then gemini-2.5-flashA structured itinerary draft using the supplied destination and trip preferences.
Video place extractionShared Gemini service; default gemini-2.5-flashNamed places and available context from the source content.
Receipt scanningShared Gemini service; default gemini-2.5-flashStructured receipt fields such as items, quantities, amounts and currency.

There is no user-facing model selector in these reviewed flows. You choose the feature and supply the relevant information; the server selects its configured model.

Why a request can use a different model

For new plan generation, the server has an ordered model chain. If a model is unavailable or the provider returns a quota limit, the service can try the next model. This is a reliability measure, not a choice of travel style or quality tier.

Fallback is not a guarantee that every failure can be recovered. Account restrictions, permissions, network errors or invalid output can still stop a request. Repeatedly pressing Generate will not fix a provider-side restriction.

A usable plan needs more than generated text

01Interpret the requestDestination and preferences
02Draft the itineraryStructured model output
03Resolve placesLocations, maps and available photos

Place matching and photo lookup are separate from writing the itinerary. Available place images are looked up, not generated as fictional venue photos. A real image still does not prove that a venue is open today or that a suggested price is current.

What AI does not confirm

  • A booking, ticket purchase or restaurant reservation.
  • Current opening hours, availability or exact travel time.
  • A guaranteed budget, live quote or payment authorisation.
  • That every place match or receipt total is correct.
